Would it be too much to ask for someone, anyone, who has not seen me in quite some time, to greet me with the phrase, "You've lost some weight!"?? Because I have, damnit! I am officially into the next size down in pants, which is two sizes down from where I started, because I wore the previous size until I looked like a stuffed sausage.
I thought for sure the nurse at the doctor's office would say something the other day, when I climbed onto the scale and my weight was actually measured and recorded RIGHT NEXT to last year's weight, and I'm not sure how much less than last year's weight it was, but at least ten and potentially even 15 pounds less, and that right there warrants a compliment or at least a comment, bitch.
And then today? I had lunch with a friend who hasn't seen me in two months. And did he greet me by commenting on my weight loss? No, no he did not. And while it might be a little irrational to expect someone whom YOU greet with, "God, you look scruffier every time I see you." to return the greeting with a compliment, I still say he could have pulled it off. (And he does look scruffier every time I see him.)

It was a man, though, and men are, well, dense about such things. Or over cautious in case you should burst into tears b/c saying "have you lost weight?" might imply you were fat at one point.
BTW, I was thinking your ass was looking especially smoking hot these days!!
Shelly - Well, this is true.
Thank ya darlin'. So is yours!
Well, you know, some people are uncomfortable talking about weight, or make a policy out of not doing it. Because you never know... maybe someone has lost weight because they're deathly ill, you know? I mean I've lost almost 60 pounds and some people haven't commented on it. I think there's a certain level of comfort that some people have to achieve with another person before they'll comment on their weight. And I'm guessing the nurse is trained not to comment on people's weight, in general.
However, may I just say... you are looking great!
Funny, I just had the opposite problem at a gathering of the in-laws. Most of the women (not men) greeted me with, "You look good." Which, yes, is nice to hear once or twice, but damn. It got to the point that I was thinking, "What the hell? Do they expect that every time they see me I'm going to look like shit?" And I HAVEN'T lost any weight. :)
Jess - Yes, that's true. And thank you.
Fiona - Yes, and my stepmother says it to get in my good graces, which always pisses me off.
If people feel awk, they could just say, "You look GREAT!"
Swistle - I heartily agree, that IS an acceptable substitute.
Congratulations! Really--10-15 pounds, awesome! I'm the same way, if I go to the hassle of losing it, I want to hear compliments from people, damnit. Also, if I cut all my hair off and dye it a different color, somebody had better mention SOMETHING about it.
Hyphen - Thank you! And I agree about hair cuts/color. In college, I used to joke about cutting my hair, "enough the boys would notice".
