Random Updates

Just in case anyone thought I was too hard on Supergirl in my last post, I'll update to tell you this: last night we went out to dinner and she was so well behaved that when we came home, I gave her the movie out of her Easter basket as a reward and let her watch it immediately. I believe firmly in rewarding good behavior, too.

Also, if anyone ever wondered how this blog got its name, I'll tell you. Rock is a stay at home dad. So both kids are "Daddy's girl/ boy". In fact, sometimes, when Rock is holding Wildman and has to pass him off to me, he cries for Daddy. It doesn't hurt my feelings, because when I come home from work, Wildman comes running to me and wants to snuggle. At night, though, when he's ready to sleep, he wants his daddy. So I say I'm Not the Daddy. I even made up a little song I sing to distract Wildman when he's crying for Rock -

Chopped Liver (to the tune of Moon River).
Chopped liver
I'm just chopped liver
I'm not the daddy,
I'm just
Chopped liver

I did always wonder about the title of your blog. That song is hilarious!

Shelly - If you remember the short-lived cartoon "Dinosaurs", the baby used to call the daddy "NottheMamma" and whack him on the head with a pan. That's part of the joke, too.

And thanks! I just came up with it the other night.

Thanks Alice! It distracts the little rascal.

Been there, done that. But now that he's 16? I hear and deal with all the "issues".

That's adorable, and I was wondering if early childhood preference had something to do with it. At my house I would say, especially with my baby boy,"Nope, I'm just the mama..." when he was screaming for Daddy.

Hot - I'm sure you have. And I'm looking forward to being the "counselor" during the teenage years. Rock will be way too hotheaded for that job. : )

Thanks Laura, Yep, they gravitate towards their dads, don't they? So sorry again for your loss. I think about you guys all the time.

That's interesting. I DID wonder about the name of your blog. I think if my husband was a stay-at-home dad, the kids would never be washed or fed and he'd just sleep all day, leaving them to fend for themselves. As it is, I can't leave him alone with them for a few hours without EXPLICIT step-by-step instructions.

jmc - well, he's great at the fed part, exceptional at the clean clothes part, they go places and do things, but baths get left entirely up to me. WHY, God, WHY? Men and other mysteries of the universe, film at 11.

I get it now!
Even though I'm the stay at home one, Maddie is still daddy's girl.
I am so Notthedaddy, where she is concerned.

Hey Heather J. - Supergirl is going through an "all about Mommy" phase, where she wants to do everything I do. From every step of getting ready for bed at night to taking pictures to going to work, she wants to be *just* like me. It is really sweet. So hang in there - you might have a "just like Mommy" phase coming, too!
