When you're in a public restroom and someone knocks on the door because they want to come in and clean but they're a different gender than the restroom specifies, how do you answer without sounding like a total doofus? I've said "yes!" and "someone's in here!" and "occupied!", but I always feel like the world's biggest dork.
Is there a reasonable solution? Or am I, in fact, the world's biggest dork?
In unrelated news, I'm about to leave work, so I wish you all a very happy weekend! See you Monday!

i usually say "just a minute!" but i feel like a huge nerd when i do it, too. so, uh, not so helpful i guess?
Yeah, I think I've tried that one, too. I think there's just no good way to answer that.
This happens to me almost every day at work. We have one guy who empties the trash sometime mid-morning, another who comes right before lunch to refill the paper products, and one who gets the trash mid-afternoon. All major pee times for me apparently because I feel like I am always yelling "Just a minute!"
And I feel like I am holding them up if I dont come running out immediately. I hate it.
Michele - exactly! And that's why I don't like to use "just a minute" because what if I take more than a minute.
OH! I always feel like a HUGE DORK too! At school they're teaching Rob and William to say, "Someone's in here!"--but I think it sounds kind of aggressive when I say it. Also, I don't want to use the word "in," since it can be mistaken for "come in."
I often go with "I'll be out in a minute!"--which also makes me feel like a colossal dork, and results in the aforementioned problem of what if it's NOT just a minute.
Hey Swistle! I've pretty well concluded that there's no good answer. I'm so glad to know that others feel like total dorks when that happens, too.
